Quick Reference Guide

Scheduling

Please contact your Logistics Coordinator directly to schedule shipments. In most cases, AFS is able to have a load shipped in 72 hours. In many cases, loads are able to ship within 48 hours. Occasionally, AFS is able to have a load shipped next day.

Cancellation:

You may cancel a load the day before by 12 PM with no penalty. (Ex. A load scheduled for Wednesday AM must be cancelled by 12 PM EST Tuesday.) If less notice is given, the cancellation is considered same day, and the carrier will charge a “Truck Ordered Not Used” (TONU) fee. This fee will be deducted from your next payment.

Loading

DETENTION:

A scheduled load should be ready for pick up at start of business/shipping hours the day the load is scheduled to pick up. If the load is not ready for shipment when carrier arrives and/or is not loaded within 2 hours of the arrival, detention charges may result. (Carriers allow for 2 hours of free loading time. Additional hours may result in detention.)

DELAYS:

If for any reason a scheduled load is not picked up on the day it is scheduled, please notify AFS by close of business day. In most cases, if the truck does not arrive on the scheduled date, it will arrive next day.

TRUCK ORDERED NOT USED CHARGE (TONU):

If a load is requested and scheduled but for any reason is not able to be loaded on the day the truck arrives, the carrier will impose a TONU charge which will be charged to the supplier. These charges typically range between $150-$250 depending on the carrier and the total cost of the freight that the carrier loses.

LIGHT LOAD CHARGE:

Truck loads should weigh a minimum 40,000 lbs. Loads weighing less than 40,000 lbs. will in most cases incur a “Light Load Charge.”

DOWNGRADES:

The receiving mill reserves the right to downgrade the material loaded if the material does not either 1.) match the grade initially scheduled and/or listed on the BOL or 2.) meet the mill’s quality requirements for the grade (moisture, contamination, , etc.). Please discuss the quality of the material with your agent if you have concerns.

VERIFY LOAD INFORMATION WITH THE DRIVER:

When a truck arrives to pick up a scheduled load, it is crucial to verify that the driver has the correct pickup information: 1.) release number 2.) grade that is being loaded 3.) delivery location. If any of the driver’s information differs from the information provided by AFS, immediately contact your AFS Logistics Coordinator Sales Agent for resolution. Trucks that are incorrectly loaded may be subject to downgrades or rejections from mill.

WEIGHT REPORTING:

Mill Receiving Weights govern all transactions. In many cases, AFS will receive and be able to send a Received Weight Notice within 2 weeks of shipment; however, in some cases due to mill delays, it may take up to 30 days from the shipment date. In the event of a weight discrepancies over 1,000 lbs., AFS will happily advocate on behalf of our supplier and dispute the mill weight; however, we cannot guarantee adjustments. In order to submit a dispute, we must have a certified scale ticket from the supplier.
